Ostpark
Frankfurt's first public park is under protection since 1986. Heart of the park in eastern Frankfurt is the 4.2 hectars large pond with its floodplain, pastures, reed grass and dunes. The park also features extensive sunbathing lawns, a timeworn tree population, loop roads with timber bridges, arbours, a labyrinth, and a herb garden - a special educational allotment featuring bamboo, cooking herbs and medicinal plants. At the beginning of the 20th century, when the East End was still a working-class district, Frankfurt´s first public parklands were used to stage political demonstrations.
